i have this one on order right now

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...o.x=0&Go .y=0

cheap stable and the benchmarking scores are 1.3 % slower than the nforce2

i can live with that performance hit especially since the nforce2 board on the shelf here has given nothing but trouble

Oh yea, you do have an operating system such as Windows on a CD, right? If you're looking for an alternative power supply, try this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153006

So now lets examine the parts one by one, make suggestions, and see if theres anything better at newegg.com for a little more or less.

First, the processor
AMD Athlon 64 3400+
Processor Operating Speed: 2.4 GHZ
L1 Cache- 64KB+64KB
L2 Cache- 512KB
Hyper Transport: Yes
Newegg link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103484

Anything cheaper at newegg thats just as good, or a little more but better? Also, remember, this is $221-Retail, and also it comes with a Heatsink and fan.

Generally speaking, I don't trust any power supply that comes with a case...learned that lesson the hard way. However, 1100 user ratings on newegg averaged up to 4 out of 5 eggs...that says something good about that case in my book.

You are not *required* to buy the aftermarket CPU cooling fan. But I would, and I'd switch to an OEM processor (that doesn't come with the fan or thermal adhesive tape) and order some Artic Silver thermal compound, too. The coolers that come with the AMD retail box just do the job and no more. I just went from a Coolermaster (worked great & sounded like a vacuum) to a Thermaltake cooler, and I'm very pleased...surprisingly easy to attach to the socket and extremely quiet. They don't have a complete grasp of the English language, LOL, but they seem to make some innovative, reasonably priced products.

I watched a video on AMD Processors, and they said not to use Thermal grease or paste because it may dissolve over a period of time, there is a chance that you can put too much, and that its better to use the tab. (The sticker on the bottom of the heatsink) Also, i see that the bottom of that heatsink fan thingy curves. I thought it was supposed to be flat, just like the top part of the pic befoore it gets to the white part. Will it work with my AMD processor posted above? I think its on the first page.
